BRIEF

We had an open brief to create an engaging visual response to the Soviets ‘The Waitress’ track. The band was initially resistant to be seen in their local town, Newcastle, so we turned the city on it’s head and created ‘Nouveau Chateaux’, a New York suburb in North England.

APPROACH

Toma Jablon was inspired to write the treatment whilst in New York working on the 360 tour visuals with U2. He was so convinced on the direction that he filmed some of the cut-aways in Dumbo, NYC. Once the treatment was agreed, the rest of the video was shot using the RED camera on location in Newcastle. Back in post, and with a bit of grading, the cut-aways shot on a Canon Legria HD blended well with the RED footage. Toma mentioned “ the trick to the video was to make sure that we cropped out obvious wide shots of the Jordy town while maintaining a relativelly coherent continuity.” The band loved the result.
